Insurance basics

Four words every customer should understand.

Learning these four words makes many insurance conversations much easier.

01

Premium

The money you pay to keep your insurance policy active.

Simple example:Think of it like paying for a membership that helps protect you.
02

Deductible

The amount you may have to pay before the insurance company begins helping with certain costs.

Simple example:If the deductible is $500, you may pay the first $500 of an eligible loss.
03

Coverage limit

The most the insurance policy may pay for a covered claim.

Simple example:A $25,000 limit does not mean the policy can pay more than $25,000.
04

Exclusion

Something the policy says it does not cover.

Simple example:A policy can protect against many problems without protecting against every problem.
